How long between ocs and tbs

We encourage you to use their Facebook page to watch the ceremony. On their website, you need to click the "event" link typically the company name then login with YOUR email address using the password OCS.

TBS: The Basic School The purpose of TBS is to train and educate newly commissioned or appointed officers in the high standards of professional knowledge, esprit-de-corps, and leadership required to prepare them for duty as company grade officers in the operating forces, with particular emphasis on the duties, responsibilities and warfighting skills required of a rifle platoon commander.

Lieutenants at TBS are academically tested every weeks with multiple choice exams. These exams differ from OCS academics in the depth of material covered and testable, and the cumulative questions.

Each exam contains specific classes and your company will provide an academic handout specifying which classes will be tested on which exam. The student handouts accompanying these classes are the testable material. Handouts can be over 60 pages, meaning a single exam can encompass several hundred pages of material. The good news is there are typically plenty of pictures.

Each exam also adds a variable amount of questions from previous material, questions which may or may not have appeared on previous exams. This makes studying a time-consuming endeavor.

Time is precious at TBS. After the work day ends, students are secured to go about their business: leave base, go out in town, visit D.

Prepare, prepare, prepare. Assume that while you are a student you will have basically no time to handle personal business. Insure your finances are in order, you have all the uniforms and clothes you need, your vehicle is dependable, and your family know how to get in touch in case of emergency. Prepare your gear ahead of events, keep your laundry up to date, and have a backup! Conduct your business in such a way that you minimize the time required to conduct it. You will have access to the internet in the barracks so use this to your advantage.

Know that conditions at TBS are always fluid, stay flexible! The question is — what is TBS like and how can I succeed? TBS is a whole new environment. You get more freedom. However, the extra time is not as free as you think. Your company at TBS is student ran. That means you secure for the day depending on when student company staff gets required tasks accomplished. Oh, and the physical events, leadership evaluations, and academics are more difficult.

In order to succeed at TBS, you need to be flexible because things never go according to plan. I will also add staying humble and learning as much as you can as a developing leader. Balance the little free time you have and be a team player in your platoon.

There are more tips I will discuss later on. Tests are harder than those in OCS. Topics are more in depth and require a lot more studying and preparation. Land Nav is WAY harder now. There are more practical applications for day and night land nav — each time increasing in distance covered. I remember how many Lieutenants got defeated by Land Navigation courses. They were so long and the points were much further apart. Some of the courses took over 7 hours to get a few points. In order to make time, some Lieutenants would have to run.

Leadership evaluations are much more demanding. Garrison billets go up to company level, but tactical billets now go up to platoon level. What does this mean? You guessed it — Op Orders are way more complicated. You will devoting a lot more time writing good operations orders that will not go as planned in a FEX.

As mentioned, everything is student ran in garrison and in the field. The demands are higher as commissioned officers and you are expected to delegate tasks and communicate with others. There are more hikes and they are longer — up to 15 miles. The hikes are faster. Worst all… more weight. Climbing to the top of that rope felt great. Now, imagine having to run back and do it all over again. There are some who fail to run it within time limits. The endurance course at TBS is terrible.

It will condition you as it is very hard. In fact, most of the students including myself in the platoon failed the initial go around. We realized we needed to improve a lot. The endurance course at TBS is not 2. I guarantee you will see plenty walking several times throughout the course. What is TBS like physically?

TBS makes Lieutenants remediate anything they failed. This can include a test, land navigation, falling out of a hike, etc. Most people I knew remediated at least something. It can be annoying having to come in on a Saturday in order to pass the test. Some Lieutenants in my company failed the final Endurance Course and have to go through the suck again on the weekend. At the end of the day, the purpose of remediation is to fix your deficiencies.

The staff want you pass all the requirements to graduate TBS.
